Magik Demon Child Challenge Mission Guide
Magik’s Challenge is different than most others in that it doesn’t only encompass her turn; she must also survive the enemy’s turn. However, as the legendary card gives her Invulnerable, it’s really still just about obtaining the card. This Challenge is all about knockbacks and positioning enemies.
Hint 1: Don’t overlook the 2 Leylines, one on each side of Magik at the start. With the default camera position, they’re easy to miss!
Hint 2: The green Leyline that applies Vulnerable is key. How can you maximize damage to occur after the enemy is Vulnerable?
Objective: Acquire and use the Darkchylde card to survive the enemy attacks.
Rules:
- There are infinite Card Plays.
- Redraw and Move are disabled.
- The Challenge is failed if Magik is defeated on the enemy turn.
Walkthrough:
- Use Limbo’s Grasp. You only have the one Limbo Portal card, but it still adds damage.
- Use Limbo Portal and aim it at the green Leyline on the right. You need to apply this Vulnerable as early as possible to do enough damage to the target enemy. We’re not using a Trap Door because we’re saving that 10 damage for after Vulnerable is applied.
- Use Quick Soulslash on the Incarnation of Memory that holds Darkchylde, knocking it through the portal and into the green Leyline. This applies Vulnerable to the enemy. Again, we’re using a non-damage card to save the others for after it’s Vulnerable. Note that this is the only enemy we’re going to target. The others are just for show (and to attack on their turn).
- Now you’ll use a Trap Door on the target and move it in front of the red Leyline.
- Use Kick on the target and knock it into the red Leyline. Depending on how you positioned things, Magik may take damage here (or earlier), but it’s not going to affect anything.
- Use the other Trap Door and move it anywhere that allows it to be knocked into something. I have it close to the far wall, but it can be anywhere, even next to another enemy.
- Use Soul Blast on the target and knock it into a wall, an enemy, whatever you want, as long as it’s defeated. This acquires Darkchylde.
- Use Darkchylde, which gives Magik Invulnerable.
- End your turn.
- Watch the enemy attacks do nothing on their turn, which will complete the Challenge.
What are Challenges?
Challenges are essentially solo character puzzles. Each character’s Challenge gives you a set hand, Offense stat, and even draw order to complete the mission, so don’t worry about character level or deck composition. The rules are generally the same (no Card Play limit, no Redraws or Moves, etc.), but they’ll all be listed in the sections below.
The first objective in most Challenges is usually to defeat certain enemies or destroy certain objects to add the character’s Legendary ability card to your hand, with the second objective simply an excuse to show the card off. Given the general nature of the first objective, the step-by-step walkthroughs aren’t the only solutions, but do solve the Challenge.
Completing a character’s Challenge gives you 2 rewards:
- The character’s Midnight Sun (Legendary) Suit
- The character’s Heroic (Legendary) card
Completed Challenges can be repeated for fun, but no longer award anything upon completion. Challenges only provide you with one copy of a character’s Heroic Legendary card. To obtain upgraded/modded versions of the cards, you must now either craft additional copies at the Forge or get lucky and find one in a Gamma Coil.
Since you get Hunter’s Challenge first, theirs is at the top of each section of this guide, with the remaining characters in alphabetical order.
Unlocking Challenges
To unlock Challenge Missions, the Armory upgrade must be built in the Forge, which becomes available after completing the research project, “Forged in Hellfire.” The requirements to research it are:
- The Forge must be at least Level 4.
- Complete 4 missions with Ghost Rider (both Story and General missions count).
The Armory costs 175 Credits to build, which adds the “Challenges” option to the Forge menu. The Hunter’s Challenge is immediately available. Other than Hulk’s, every other character’s Challenge is unlocked once you’ve earned Level 5 Friendship with them.
