In this guide I will outline what these mob spawns are, why they are there, and how to deal with them.
What are these guys?
Mob spawns refer to small enemies that spawn after a while in one area. In the first layer of the abyss, these would be the weasels that appear on-ground and the moths that appear when you climb. They appear constantly and consistently after spending too much time in one area. These enemies will start appearing about two and a half minutes in to your exploration of any given location, and will spawn at a faster and faster rate until around ten minutes, where the spawn rate maxes out. There is nothing indicating that killing too many of the default enemies results in results mob spawns.
Why are they there?
In dungeon crawlers, specifically rogue-likes and mystery dungeon games, there is a popular feature in that if you stay on any floor for too long, an incredibly powerful enemy will spawn. The developers seemed to implement something similar by spawning multiple small enemies on top of you in the same situation. This probably is done to prevent players from farming the same area for too long without taking hunger penalties.
How do I deal with them?
There are a few ways to deal with them. The most obvious is this: move to a different area. If you aren’t able to do that, you can use a smoke signal to keep enemies away from you for a short amount of time. If you don’t have the materials to do so, keeping crouched has a mitigating effect on mobs. Additionally, there’s some rumors saying that standing near a cliff and keeping your camera pointed so that it covers everything around you will keep them from spawning as it is said they can only spawn outside of your field of view. This seems to only work with grounded enemies in smaller areas with large cliffs near them though. There was another rumor that the spawn rate was tied to frame rate; this is not the case, so lowering your frame rate will not help you.
You can use a mod to stop them
- Are you tired of having to speedrun every single level because of enemies constantly spawning on behind you and attacking you?
- Are you tired of trying to fish or simply take in the beautiful scenery, only for pesky oversized fauna to swarm you like you owe them money?
- Then all you need to do is download this mod!
What it does
This mod disables enemies from spawning around you after a certain amount of time elapses.
What It does not do
Ambient enemies and random boss enemies are NOT affected.
Your savegame should NOT be affected.
This mod will NOT break any quests. It does not edit any quest scripts, simply loads dummy flags for spawner AI and should therefore be 100% safe to save and reversible. Quests that use the spawner uses a different variable which is not touched by this mod.
This mod will NOT disable achievements.
How to install
Drop the file in “Steam\steamapps\common\MadeInAbyss-BSFD\MadeInAbyss-BSFD\Content\Paks” folder.
Rename the file to ‘MadeInAbyss-BSFD-WindowsNoEditor_1_P.pak’
Backup your save to be safe.

Troubleshooting
Mod Isn’t Working
The game loads patch files in naming order. If the game updates and a new file called.
"MadeInAbyss-BSFD-WindowsNoEditor_1_P.pak"
is created, you will need to rename the mod to
"MadeInAbyss-BSFD-WindowsNoEditor_2_P.pak"
Make sure the
"Number"_P
is always the highest number in the Paks folder.
Enemies Are Still Spawning
The easiest way to troubleshoot this is to simply IDLE at any map’s entrance for 5 or so minutes. If enemies don’t spawn on you when idling, then the mod is working.
Some specific locations in certain regions (Ex. Lower platforms of Inverted Arbor will always respawn 3 Blue Moths). have respawning triggers which are meant to give the location some difficulty, and are NOT touched by my mod.
The game also has very short draw distance, so make sure you’re not confusing enemies rendering into your view with actual enemies spawning.
Thanks to everyone who helped beta test it!
